Arrowpoints Sept 2016

Arrowpoints

Bournemouth Archery Club’s Newsletter
September 2016

Dear Members,

Time to catch you up with a few important items! With Autumn/Winter approaching fast we will soon be thinking about shooting indoors (except for the hardy few!).

Music Event
There is a music event being held at the sports club on Saturday, 24th Sept, and it is expected that there will be around 1500-2000 people attending.  It is being held on C1 and we have been advised that it should not affect our shooting on C2. However, there will be a lot of people at the sports club on the day so extra vigilance will be necessary.

Outdoor Shooting
We are now moving from Cricket 1 to Cricket 2 on Wednesday 14th September for the winter season. As before, the Sports Club will move our heavy equipment for us. Our equipment will be in our new container next to the cricket pavilion – if you have a key then this will fit the padlock on the new container. There are two containers side by side, ours is the one on the left marked with an ‘A’. The Cricket section have kindly offered us the use of the ‘Home’ changing room for shelter and refreshment purposes and toilet facilities are available in this changing room. The key to the changing room will be kept in the container, please make sure you lock up and return the key after use. Please respect this facility and keep it clean and tidy.

Car parking has been reserved for us in the fenced off area at the rear of the tarmac near C2 (the old wedding marquee site) with access via the wooden gates.  Please take care and park with consideration to others to ensure people are not blocked in when parking.

Indoor Shooting
Rifle Range:- We will be starting indoors in the range on Friday evenings commencing Friday 23rd September. From 4th October the range will then be open on a Tuesday and Friday evening. Shooting will be available from 6.30 - 9pm. Range fees will be £2 for adults and £1 for juniors per session – this remains great value for money!

Victoria School:- Shooting will be likely to start at Victoria School, Branksome on Saturday 5th November from 9.30am to 12.30pm. This is a lovely venue, light and warm and session fees are £3.00 for seniors and £2 for juniors. Visitors can use this facility at a cost of £5 per session. It is likely that there will be dates that the hall will not be available and on these occasions we will endeavour to book the rifle range as an alternative venue. We will keep you posted of these dates.

Outdoor Championships
The club outdoor championships will be held on Sunday 25th September on Cricket 2. The round is a York/Hereford – 12 dozen arrows with Bristol rounds for juniors and a National round in the afternoon (1pm sighters). Assembly will be at 10.00am with sighters at 10.15am. Further details of distances etc can be found in the winter container and at the indoor shooting venues.

Indoor Championships
The Indoor Championships will be held at Victoria School – it is currently expected that this will be early December but details need to be finalised – date and time to be confirmed in due course via club website and noticeboards.

Canford Indoor Tournament 2017
Please make a note in your diary that the Canford Indoor Tournament will be held on Sunday 15th January 2017. More details will follow in due course.

This card allows you 10% discount on drinks and food in the main clubhouse and gives 5% back to the archery club. News from Bournemouth Sports Club

Bournemouth Sports Club
Chapel Gate, East Parley, Christchurch, Dorset, BH23 6BL

TO ALL BOURNEMOUTH SPORTS CLUB MEMBERS
Not everything happens at the pace we’d like but at last I am delighted to update the Members on some recent developments at the Sports Club.

The Trustees first priority has always been to install new boilers for the main changing rooms, including those for the Squash courts. The negotiations with LV=’s assistance have been protracted in establishing the right facility, and agreement has now been reached to install these at the beginning of September. The Trustees wished to have had these in situ earlier, but it was not to be, however the four week installation programme is planned so that showers will be available at all times. We hope that the long term benefits will outweigh some modest inconvenience over that time.

Those who use the Club during weekdays will have noticed that cars are now regularly parking at the front of the main car park; this is potentially a most encouraging long term commercial deal for the Club with a business on the Aviation Park. Also the footballers will notice ground works close to the hedge line adjoining Chapel Lane around the back of Football 1, 2 &3; again we have reached agreement with a company on the Aviation Park to run an electric cable under our land. Whilst we appreciate that this might affect the fringes of these pitches to a very small degree at the beginning of the season, the works, in every respect, are at no cost to us including full reinstatement of our land, and we have received a valued capital sum as compensation.

Members will have noticed that fencing has now been placed all round the Garden Area together with new benches, we will be adding some play equipment shortly: hopefully after some further modest improvements this will encourage the use of this area as a family friendly amenity. We have to thank Tesco’s for supporting this project. At the last Fix-It Day with LV=, the old sheds at the back of the Garden Room were removed, the base around this area will be upgraded shortly and will be an ideal spot for BBQs.

General cleaning and painting of the Club House has begun in the Lounge Bar along with improving the toilets in that bar as well. LV= have shown an interest in regularly using this for small meetings. Although the access is limited for wheel chairs the room has an attractive outlook, so if you or your company or business have the need for similar use please let the Office know.

For those of you who have been concerned with a lack of draught beer recently, you’ll be delighted to know that the problems in the cellar have been resolved and there is plenty to go round!
I hope to be able to issue updates more regularly as we move into the ‘winter’ season.
